I’m Amber.
I live in the mountains of Park City, Utah with my mountain man husband, two rambunctious, tow-headed sons, and two very spoiled dogs. I’ve always had a nostalgic heart, and I find something magical about creating special moments and memories for my family. I’m drawn to the stories of the past and am fascinated by the way a trinket or song or even a scent can evoke a feeling or recollection. I get lost in any second-hand shop, poring over the dusty items and imagining how they were used in their previous life. I’ve filled my shelves with irreplaceable items that bring me joy. My husband might call me a hoarder… I like to think I’m a collector of little pieces of history. That’s where Betty Byrd comes in.
Who’s Betty?
Meet BETTY, our beloved 1966 Serro Scotty camper. We found her on Memorial Day 2011. After a windy tent camping attempt in the Southern Utah desert, we decided that we were ready to upgrade our camping style. Sweet Betty shone like a retro star among the rest of the generic RVs listed in the classifieds. We wasted no time hitting the road in our 13-foot cottage on wheels, spending a total of 8 weeks exploring the West that summer and countless adventures over the next few years. When baby Oden joined us on his first camping trip in 2016, it quickly became clear that our growing family was too much for Betty’s adorable but minimal square footage. It felt like a betrayal to look at roomier campers that would better suit us. None had Betty’s charm or energy, and we opted to put her into storage, knowing our story together wasn’t over.
Betty will now be home to Betty Byrd Vintage & Gifts, a mobile gift shop offering unique plants and homemade candles in found vintage vessels. Betty will also showcase the creative works of burgeoning local artists, and provide the backdrop to moments of connection with our Park City community and visitors alike.
I just love the idea of giving a new life to a precious old treasure and adding to its story.
So…
In December of 2023, I launched Betty Byrd Vintage & Gifts with a magical 2-day Christmas pop-up. Friends, family, neighbors and strangers shared a bit of holiday nostalgia, perused some fabulous decor and houseware items from “the old days,” sipped mulled wine and laughed around a firepit. And Betty’s next chapter began.
Since that celebratory evening in 2023, Betty Byrd Vintage & Gifts has been featured at multiple events, vendor gatherings, farmers’ markets, and popups at my own home. Sweet Betty, the camper, makes special appearances and is always the star of the show! I’m learning as I go- what works, and what doesn’t- and enjoying every moment.
